20 HURT IN ALABAMA SCHOOL BUS CRASH

A charter bus carrying dozens of elementary school children on a field trip ran off Interstate 59 and flipped over Friday, injuring 20 people in the second major crash for the transportation company in less than a month.

None of the injuries in the school bus wreck on I-59 was believed to be life-threatening.

Because of the wrecks, federal regulators say they plan to conduct a full compliance review of the firm, Adventure Bus Charter and Tours Inc. of Sumiton, Alabama, which hasn't had a full safety audit since 1995....

ONE NOISY HIGH SCHOOL PARTY BUT NO BOOZE

This is something out of the ordinary. Seeing noisy teens spilling out of the night's party place, loud music coming out of speakers, streets jammed with cars but wait... this party's got no alcohol involved.

Managing debts

Are your student loans weighing down on you? Are your credit card bills and other loans pushing you to bankruptcy? Please be informed that there are many ways to manage debt.

To start with, I have realized early on the value of having a clean credit record. A good rating enables people to live peacefully and should the need to borrow money from any financial institutions arise, the clean record helps acquire the best package in terms of low interest rate and high credit limits. In addition, I have realized the value of owning valuable real property. Should the need arise, the real property can be sold to finance the need and most of all, it can be used as a collateral in a mortgage. In the event that one is in trouble, the real property can also be mortgaged and be used to pay off debts. In short, the mortgage also serves as a good debt consolidation tool.

For people who are in real financial trouble. They should realize that there is hope 90% of the time. For me, the key lies in proper communication with the creditors and a good strategy. Rather than ignore the creditors and eventually get slapped with law suits left and right, one should study all options to include mortgage as a debt consolidation strategy. If all those options are not available, there’s always the IVA to run into. IVA refers to Individual Voluntary Arrangements which is a legally binding agreement between creditors and borrowers. It is overseen and supervised by licensed insolvency practitioners who are also chartered accountants. That, for me, is a lot better for people in debt. Rather than resort to bankruptcy which always renders the individual at the losing end, the IVA enables the borrower to settle his obligations and walk away clean. This is not to mention the clean conscience that comes with it.

GOOD NEWS FOR STUDENTS: FREE ONLINE ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

One of the most popular photo editing software is Adobe Photoshop. People find it great in retouching photos to suit their specific needs. But for students and other people in the academe, the software's price tag may be too costly, considering the fact that they only need it for minor retouches such such photo cropping, brightness, contrast, etc..

To be able to compete in this category, Adobe is launching a free online version of its popular software. The new program, which is currently on beta, will be a welcome development to students who need not pay for anything to be able to come up with better graphics for their presentations.

Starting a web based school or business?

I regularly sit in a meeting aimed in resolving issues that will give birth to a new joint venture firm. The business will have a web based component that is intended to bring in most of the new company's revenue. For the past couple of weeks, one of the things that we haven't resolved is the choice of a domain name. We've agreed on some only to find out that it has been registered and being offered for a few thousand dollars, something that the partners are unwilling to pay.

In the course of our web search, we also realized that there are existing domains with regular traffic that we can buy and develop further. We now recognize that a strategy like that is one good way to speed things up. There are places in the internet where domain names with existing traffic are being sold. However, one should be careful when buying one. A site may actually be blacklisted by the search engines, have false page ranks, etc.

In discussions along these lines, the most recognizable name is Adam Dicker. A true pioneer in internet domain business, he operates many sites to include dnforum.com, the most serious and popular discussion portal for domains issues and related topics. While this person may be somebody up there, he can actually be consulted regarding these matters. He has started a personal blog wherein people can post questions related to domains and get answers and Domain Name Advice directly from him.

His blog is …. It will launch on April 1 but people can now go there for it is active already. This blog should work well as a PR for my favorite domain name registration portal GoDaddy.com where Dicker serves as a VP. By the way, I have to visit GoDaddy and renew some of my registered domains.

GRADE SCHOOLER CAMPAIGNS TO SAVE CAMELS

Adults should be ashamed at what they do. A grade schooler is working very hard to save camels killed through reckless ways of disposing trash.

In Abu Dhabi, an 11 year old boy is holding a photo exhibit in order to increase people's awareness regarding the effect of irresponsible trash disposal. Oliver Cameroon of the Raha International School will present his masterpieces on April 6~11 in his school's exhibit.

He started his campaign shortly after reading an article that non biodegradable plastic bags that are being carelessly thrown in the dessert is being eaten by wild animals causing their eventual death from suffocation.

"My hope is that people will see littering in the desert kills animals. We need these animals and we rely on them. Three hundred camels dies each year because of littering," Cameron said.

Class suit against 12 provincial schools

In Edmonton’s Alberta School for the Deaf, a student who went there from 1957 ~ 1970 claims to have suffered from systematic physical and mental abuse. According to her, she was trained never to say "No" and whenever she did, the school staff abused her. This conditioned her never to say No to anybody even later in life. As a result, she became very prone to further abuse by other people.

The former student is now a plaintiff in a class action suit against the Alberta government which ran the school during that period. The suit is a part of an action against provincial governments which ran 12 special boarding schools from the 1950's to the 1990's. The claim covers around 51,000 students.

Hair Science 101: How weight loss and body building efforts contribute to hair loss

Does your forehead seem to expand as your biceps gets bigger? Most probably, you are not imagining things. The observation is probably very accurate. According to Dr. Shapiro’s hair Institute, a number of growth hormones, protein shakes and muscle enhancers contain high testosterone levels that increase the DHT levels in the human body. High DHT levels, as corroborated by other research institutes the shrinking of shrinking hair follicle. This is referred to as miniaturization resulting to hair falls. DHT is said to be responsible for about 95% of hair loss. In addition, DHT is also said to prevent nutrients from nourishing hair follicles. As a result, hair follicles tend to reproduce at a slower rate.

In regard to regaining lost hair, there are many products being hyped as a remedy. However, the most popular and surefire ways still involves hair transplants. Gambling in the academe

Gambling is prohibited in schools but that doesn’t stop the faculty and students of legal age from engaging in it. Therefore, the best thing to do is strengthen the value formation in schools to make sure that no one in the academe ever falls into the trap that compulsive gamblers are encased in. During the value formation stages, kids should be taught how to be responsible in a lot of things and gambling (and the possible dangers attached to it) should be given special attention. In a recent gaming convention, owners of giant casinos in the US, Europe and Asia talked about profiling, counseling, player registration and a lot of other things to keep harm away from both the players and casinos. However, these measures are not yet present in online gambling sites. At this point, we can say that probably just about anybody with the means can gamble. At this point, the best available option, aside from information dissemination regarding responsible gaming, which can be given to everyone, is the spreading of information regarding sites that contains reviews of online casinos in order for the players to enjoy their experience and avoid being victimized by fraudulent sites. visit site sponsored by online casino bluebook for more information.

Home solutions

Talking about something else, I have never thought that renovating and redecorating one’s home can be so much fun. Of course, there are expenses involved but if the place is due for a renovation anyway, it would be best to consider Anglian home improvements. In that site, they specialize in creating solutions that will make you optimize the use and love for your home. Imagine converting your garage or a part of it into a beautiful extension of your house. Go to the site and you’ll see some of those that they have done.

Other products that captured my interest are the wonderful windows and doors. I never thought that the kind of casement windows installed in my high rise office would actually look so good and be very functional in my classically inspired house. Look at the site, similar photos and applications can be found there. The doors too are very sleek. It can be made to fit the motif of your house but the materials are something else. It’s much more durable, cheaper and very nice. Check it out!

EDUCATION AND THE INTERNET

Those in the academe are always pressed for time. With the hundreds of pages that need to be read every day, a corresponding number of pages to be written, and the research that always has to back it up, an unreliable internet service provider is definitely a no-no. In this regard, the faculty, researchers and students specially, are most appreciative when referred to an excellent broadband uk provider.

In the UK, BT broadband is acclaimed to offer the most reliable connection and a download speed that reaches up to 8MB. Being the largest provider in the area, it serves up to 3 million households and at the moment, gets the most number of converts from subscribers of other broadband companies. To top it all, it also provides a round the clock service support to make sure that subscribers do not experience unnecessary downtimes. For those searching for a broadband uk, check out the packages of BT broadband and experience what service really is.

Printer Inks

Schools are undoubtedly one of the biggest consumers Ink Cartridges. Students and faculty alike consume tons of paper and ink on a daily basis and if one’s annual consumption of these items will be quantified, the figure will surprisingly high. It is no wonder that the suppliers of these items inside and just outside the university gates make a lot of money. Some people, in order to save on cost, use remanufactured ink that costs probably 25% of the original products. The problem however is that some printer brands do not function well with remanufactured cartridges. When no original cartridges are used on such brands, the printer can be damaged beyond repair. Therefore, one has to be careful. Before buying a printer, make sure that it is compatible to non OEM inks. When buying a remanufactured ink cartridge, also make sure that it will not mess up your printer.
999inks provides a solution to people in need of inks. It offers low prices and ships out on the same day. So for those students so busy typing their manuscripts and the faculty member engrossed with his presentation, 999inks.co.uk is a good place to buy inks.

BEWARE OF BULLIED KIDS IN THE UK

No sooner had we adviced against counseling bullied kids from fighting back, we came upon this report that bullying in the UK is perceived to have gotten worse and the kids are starting to carry weapons.

As an Asian, I can say that this is far more dangerous than most people might think. A lot of migrants are left because of bad conditions where they come from. They are from tough neighborhoods and knows "very well" how to fight back. Some of these people without blinking, will tell you how many times they can stab a person in one minute. That's how rough these people can be when pushed in a corner.

This reminds me of a Hmong immigrant who was alleged to have been subjected to racial slur by 3~ 4 white American in the jungle, during hunting season. The Asian was alleged to have snapped and killed all of his foes. It only took a few seconds. Another fear that I have is the consequence should these immigrants band together to protect themselves. One such case in the US resulted in the deadliest organized gang that this world is now fearful of-- THE MS 13.

Google it and find out.

ONLINE SEX PREDATORS AND CYBER BULLYING

Here are some facts to support active monitoring of kids internet usage. The article argues that we should watch our kids in the same way we monitor our houses.

  • The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported in 1999 that one in seven children ages 10 to 17 had been solicited for sex online.
  • 50% of those solicitations came from other kids, rather than predators.
  • 33% of children reported being exposed to sexual material online
  • The number of kids reporting cyber-bullying rose, to 9 percent from 6 percent five years ago.
  • Sometimes kids make innocent mistakes - registering to win a free iPod, providing personal information or responding to an e-mail from a "friend of a friend" - and make themselves targets.

PRISON EDUCATION

When we talk about education, we often forget to consider the correctional system. Thousands of human beings are kept in prison and most of them will eventually be sent out to rejoin the community. Because of their past records, it is a necessity for us to make sure that they are rehabilitated and become fit to be reintegrated to the society, where playing by the rules is the norm and not the exception.

In preparing the inmates to rejoin the society, there can be no better method than an effective prison education. This article tells us more.

CONSOLIDATING STUDENT LOANS

With the high cost of education, students are forced to resort to borrowing in order to finance their studies. Sometimes, the need to use more than one loan facility arises and the result can be problematic. Multiple loans with different interest rates and varied payment schedules can cause massive disruption of anyone's personal cash flow.

One of the remedies available in such instances is called "Student Loan Consolidation". Simply put, it is a facility that repays all of a student's loans and gives him/ her a single loan with an affordable payment schedule. The payment terms of this type of loan may last a little longer compared to the ones replaced. But the good side of this single debt is the lower monthly payment amounts that make it very affordable to the individual.

HOW TO DEAL WITH BULLYING

Aside from article advising parents and kids how to deal with bullying, let us discuss specific incidents and the ways by which we should deal with it.

There's this kid who gets bullied by neighbors kids. Aside from the physical shoving and punching, the kid is also abused through written graffiti on the neighborhood brick walls, public humiliation in school, emails, text messages, etc.

What should the parent do?

It is not a good idea to teach retaliation for it will only make things worse. The best way to go about it is to write to the school authorities as well as the local police, meet with them and have them act on it. Take notes during every meeting and phone conversation and properly tag it with the time and date of the meeting. If faced with inaction, write to them again and quote the previous letters and conversations to let the authorities know that their inaction or inability to resolve the matter is being documented. That should push them to act. If needed, send a letter to higher officials and quote in it your previous letters and responses. That should push them to act.

Do not stop until the issue has been resolved.

BULLYING

In line with the latest trend of campus violence that happens everywhere, we will be featuring articles that hopes to help parents identify, prevent their kids from being bullied and act accordingly should it happen.

Bullying is the act of intentionally causing harm through physical and/or mental means. This includes shoving, punching, verbal and written abuse and getting others to gang and do the same things to a particular individual or group. The effect of child bullying range from having a kid so scared or losing the appetite to go to school, develop negative behavior and later on become problematic members of the society. In some extreme cases, child and adult suicides have been directly attributed as results of bullying. There are even cases of adult suicides which arose from bullying incidents that occurred when they were mere kids.

Bullying is something that parents should never dismiss or tolerate. They should realize that child bullying can have disastrous consequences to their kids. There are many resources regarding the topic that can be found. We urge all parents to look for signs of bullying and immediately act on it.

This page will feature related articles from time to time.

PARENTS IN SOUTHERN PHILIPPINE TOWN WORKS TO SAVE SCHOOL

In a southern town the Philippines, The Consolacion National High School (CNHS) might be forced to operate without electricity or shut down if it is unable to pay its power bills. Since the school opened in 1974, the Consolacion municipal government has been paying the power bills. However, these stopped last November 2007.

The Parents Teachers and Community association is now taking the cause of saving the school by petitioning the different local governments. For the meantime, the government’s Department of Education (DepEd) is paying for some of the school’s bills by using funds intended for other purposes. At this point however, the DepEd has already given notice that it cannot continue doing the same due to its limited funds. It also needs to get reimbursed soon so it can use the money for its intended purpose.

PARENTS RAISE FUNDS TO SAVE A GOOD SCHOOL

In Harrisburg’s Carolina International School, a finance officer was recently arrested and charged for an alleged embezzlement of close to $500,00 (within two years). The lost money resulted to a deficit of approximately to $400,000 (for May and June) and a possible closing of the institution. In order to help settle the school's obligations, several parents are now running a fund raising campaign.

The parents involved are focused in saving the CIS that has so far remarkably performed better than the average school. In 2006 and 2007, the school's N.C. Education Report Card shows Carolina International School scoring higher than the state average in every subject.
